Workforce Education refers to work-related learning experiences which can include foundation skills, technical and computer skills, serving either employed or unemployed workers, which are provided inside or outside the workplace and focus on the skills and knowledge workers, need to get and keep good jobs and meet demands for productivity, safety and advancement. Minnesota Workforce Education includes the following:
- Adult Basic Education (ABE)
- GED (General Education Development) test preparation
- English as a Second Language (ESL)
These education services are designed to demonstrate a strong relationship between basic skills and the literacy requirements of a changing workplace. Workforce education in Minnesota encompasses two facets:
-
Improving the foundation skills of adults entering the workforce and dislocated workers as they prepare for job training and employment or new occupations
-
Improving the foundation skills of incumbent workers in the workplace through classes offered by ABE providers at the worksite.
Adult Basic Education (ABE) providers across the state of Minnesota offer English as a Second Language (ESL), basic skills--reading, writing, and math--as well as GED preparation and soft skills training onsite at a small cost to the business.
